A three-game weekend series between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers brought two retiring legends together in David Ortiz and Vin Scully. Although both have asked they not receive extra attention this season, Ortiz and Scully were at the center of attention.

The Dodgers honored Ortiz with a pregame ceremony prior to Friday’s game, presenting him with a $10,000 donation to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. The donation was matched by Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and his wife Betsy.

Ortiz started one game in the series and made one pinch-hit appearance. He went 0-for-3 with one strikeout and one walk, and remained hitless in his career at Dodger Stadium.

The Red Sox returned the favor on Saturday by presenting Scully with framed photo of himself prior to throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park and the program from the first game he called at the iconic stadium:

Prior to the series finale on Sunday, Ortiz joined the list of visiting players to meet with Scully in the broadcast booth. The two exchanged pleasantries, as Scully would call it, and posed for autographs.
