Dodgers Prospects Gavin Stone, Yusniel Díaz & Wilman Diaz Win Minor League Weekly Honors

Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Gavin Stone, Yusnel Díaz and Wilman Diaz were honored for their play during the week of July 31-August 6 for Triple-A Oklahoma City, Double-A Tulsa and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, respectively.

Stone took the award for Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week, Yusnel Díaz was named Texas League Player of the Week, and Wilman Diaz earned California League Player of the Week honors. The Dodgers previously had Michael Busch, Mike Montgomery and Kendall Williams be recognized as Minor League Player of the Month for July in their leagues.

Stone, MLB Pipeline’s fourth-ranked Dodgers prospect and 46th overall, struggled at the Major League level but has impressed of late with the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

In his last start against the Round Rock Express (Texas Rangers affiliate), Stone looked fired six no-hit innings and finished with 10 strikeouts.

Despite struggling with Oklahoma City earlier this season and posting an unsightly 12.75 ERA in his brief time in the Dodgers rotation, Stone has found some balance over his last five Minor League starts, striking out 31 batters and giving up only eight earned runs in 27 innings.

Yusnel Díaz went 10-for-23 (.434 average) with four home runs, five walks and nine RBI during his six games being recognized for. This is Díaz’s second stint in the Dodgers Minor League system, as he was part of the 2018 trade which saw Manny Machado acquired from the Baltimore Orioles.

After the Orioles outrighted Díaz in 2022, he signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers and has flourished with the Drillers, batting .253/.351/.458 with 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 31 RBI.

Wilman Diaz had an electric week for the Quakes, going 12-for-21 with a triple and four home runs. Diaz was assigned to Rancho Cucamonga from the Arizona Complex League Dodgers on July 18 and has not looked back, batting a robust .403/.433/.774.

Gavin Stone’s first Player Of The Week Award since 2021

Stone’s recognition was his first since being named California League Pitcher of the Week twice during August of the 2021 Minor League season.

Yusniel Díaz had an even longer stretch between awards, as he last was named California League Player of the Week for the Quakes in June 2017. Díaz also earned Player of the Month honors at that point as well.
