The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the series finale against the San Francisco Giants with a 73-31 record, seven-game winning streak and with an opportunity to complete a three-game sweep. They’d also won 12 of 14 games since the All-Star break.

Pitching in front of a national audience on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, Hyun-Jin Ryu turned in a solid outing as he matched Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. Each went seven scoreless innings, while allowing five hits, issuing one walk and striking out seven apiece.

The Giants were first to get a run on the board, with Connor Gillaspie hitting a solo home run off Josh Fields in the top of the eighth. Los Angeles then responded with a last-chance effort in the ninth.

Chase Utley led off the inning with an infield single, then stole second base. Yasiel Puig’s chopper carried through the middle of the infield and into center field for a game-tying RBI base hit.

The game remained tied until a Joe Panik go-ahead single in the 11th. Corey Seager doubled with one out in the bottom half of the inning, which prompted the Giants to intentionally walk Justin Turner.

In stepped pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer, who was making his MLB debut. Farmer quickly fell behind in the count, 0-2, but battled back to work it full. With his family anxiously watching from the stands, Farmer slapped a two-run, walk-off double down the right-field line.

The entire dugout, led by Framer’s college roommate Alex Wood, all raced to second base to celebrate the moment. When recently asked for his top highlight from the regular season, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts went with Farmer’s dramatic hit.
