The Los Angeles Dodgers received seven shutout innings from Hyun-Jin Ryu, who matched Madison Bumgarner’s effort, but it nearly was all for naught in the series finale against the San Francisco Giants.

Josh Fields took over in the top of the eighth of a scoreless game. He immediately surrendered a home run to pinch-hitter Conor Gillaspie. Yasiel Puig gave it a valiant effort, going back on the ball and leaping into the stands in right field.

While Puig came up empty on his bid to take a home run Gillaspie, he robbed the Giants of a win in the bottom of the ninth by driving a game-tying single into center field. The game went into extra innings and ended in memorable fashion for Kyle Farmer and the Dodgers.

With the Giants leading, 2-1 in the 11th inning, Farmer hit for Pedro Baez with one out and the winning runs on base. Justin Turner had just been intentionally walked to put the pressure on Farmer in what was his MLB debut.

He fell behind 0-2 but worked the count full before slapping a walk-off, two-run double down the right-field line. Farmer was immediately mobbed by his teammates and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts at second base.

The victory sent the Dodgers into their off day on an eight-game winning streak and leading the Houston Astros by 5.5 games for the best record in baseball. It was the seventh game the Dodgers won this season when trailing when entering the ninth, which leads the Majors.
