The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Freddie Freeman to a six-year contract on Friday, and he was in camp for a Spring Training workout at Camelback Ranch.

Freeman emerging from the Dodgers clubhouse to make his way onto the backfields was met by loud applause from fans in attendance. He took part in fielding drills at first base and participated during rounds of batting practice.

Freeman signing with the Dodgers gives them four former MVP winners on the active roster, which is a distinction only five teams can lay claim to in MLB history. Coincidentally, the 2021 Dodgers also joined that group with the signing of Albert Pujols upon his release from the L.A. Angels.

With Freeman in the fold the Dodgers now have the option to move Max Muncy to second base and have him receive starts at second base. Muncy remains on the mend from a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow.

Furthermore, Freeman’s arrival adds to an already-potent Dodgers lineup. His left-handed bat helps replace Corey Seager’s departure and take pressure off both Muncy and Cody Bellinger.

Reaction to Dodgers signing Freeman

When discussing the addition of the 2020 National League MVP, Justin Turner said he has long been an admirer of Freeman and joked about recruiting him for the past five years.

Clayton Kershaw deemed Freeman one of the top hitters in baseball, which was a sentiment Muncy echoed. Muncy had previously voiced a willingness to switch to second base in order for Freeman to better fit on the Dodgers roster.
