Dodgers Skid Continues As Latest Loss To Marlins Marks Sixth Straight Defeat

The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday night when they took on the Miami Marlins, but they were unable to do so, falling 6-5 for their sixth straight loss.

The Marlins got to Dodgers starter Walker Buehler in the first in third innings on groundball RBI-singles to take a 2-0 lead. The second run was unearned, as the runner that scored reached base on an error by Chris Taylor at shortstop.

The Dodgers got one of those runs back on offense in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Yasmani Grandal off Marlins starter Elieser Hernandez.

Hernandez, who was making his first career Major League start, was otherwise terrific giving up just three hits and the one run in five innings of work.

Miami was able to really get to Buehler in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on a two-run home run by Justin Bour and then a sacrifice fly by Miguel Rojas.

The Dodgers responded quickly off the Marlins bullpen though by doing something that they seemingly haven’t done in weeks: hit with runners in scoring position.

Joc Pederson led off the inning with a double and then later scored on a single by Grandal. After Cody Bellinger doubled, Chris Taylor drove in one more with a single and then Max Muncy completed the rally with a two-run double to tie the game at five.

That lead did not last long though as Pedro Baez came in to relieve Buehler in the sixth and gave up a solo home run to J.T. Realmuto to put the Marlins back out in front, 6-5.

Realmuto’s home run proved to be the difference, as the Dodgers were not able to score another run in the contest. They had a golden opportunity in the eighth inning when they had two runners on with one out, but Yasiel Puig popped up and Austin Barnes struck out to end the threat.

Chase Utley then singled to lead off the ninth against Marlins closer Brad Ziegler, but he then got a fly out and a double play ball to end the game.
