The Los Angeles Dodgers put Max Muncy on paternity leave and recalled Michael Busch from Triple-A Oklahoma City. This marks the first time Busch has been added to the Dodgers active roster.

He was among the players the Dodgers put on their 40-man roster last November to protect against possibly getting selected in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.

Busch then was with the Dodgers in Spring Training for the third time in his career, and went on to open the Minor League season with Oklahoma City. He hit hit .337/.461/.506 with eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI through 21 Triple-A games this year.

Included in that was Busch reaching safely in every game, with a hit coming in 18 of those contests. Busch’s 21-game on-base streak is the longest active stretch in the Pacific Coast League.

The 25-year-old figures to be in line for an opportunity to play some third base, a position Busch just began logging innings at this season. Busch played third base in nine of his past 11 games with Oklahoma City.

Muncy heads on paternity leave fresh off being named National League Player of the Week for games played April 17-23. It’s the first time Muncy won weekly recognition in his career.

After a slow start to the season prompted Muncy to again incorporate the step-back move while a pitch is being delivered, he’s now batting .254/.411/.718 with 11 home runs, 21 RBI, a .462 wOBA and 194 wRC+. Muncy’s 11 homers lead the Majors.

Dodgers paternity list

Mookie Betts recently was on paternity leave, and Evan Phillips joined the list late last week as well. Now the Dodgers are without Muncy and Brusdar Graterol as their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates begins.

Per MLB roster rules, a player put on the paternity list must be away from the team for at least one day but no more than three days.
