Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Extremely Frustrated By Continued Injury Issues

The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to take the series rubber match from the Pittsburgh Pirates, but it came mostly without the help of Tyler Glasnow, who left his start prior to the second inning beginning.

Glasnow allowed back-to-back home runs and walked one in his first inning and took the mound to start the second. But after his warmup pitches, Glasnow was shaking his arm and exited the game with right shoulder discomfort.

It marked the second consecutive start that Glasnow left the game early due to injury.

“Frustrated,” Glasnow said. “At extension, trying to throw, something grabbed. I think just making a lot of changes, trying to figure out a way to stay healthy, I think some of the changes have led to other things kind of taking over. At this point I’m just trying to figure out what to do. It’s just extremely frustrating.”

Glasnow’s 2024 season ended early because of right elbow tendinitis and he spent the offseason working on mechanical adjustments to maintain better health. He and the Dodgers were encouraged by the changes, but now Glasnow feels they may be causing other issues.

“Any time you change something I’ve done for a long time to try to prevent an injury, other things are taking over and there’s more stress on other parts,” Glasnow said. “I don’t know. I’m trying to figure it out.”

The 31-year-old added the shoulder issue “comes and goes” and his mechanics haven’t consistently been connected, but he felt the issue the most while warming up in the second inning on Sunday.

“It’s just been a thing,” Glasnow said. “With changing stuff, I think it’s been hard for me to find a footing. Every time it’s a little bit different. There’s more stress on one part, and then I compensate doing something else.

“I don’t even know what it is or what’s going on. I’m just trying to figure out why it is that something new seems to be happening.”

Will Tyler Glasnow go on injured list?

The next steps for Glasnow are unclear. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said a stint on the injured list is a possibility, and the timing could make sense with Tony Gonsolin set to return this week.

Glasnow may need to return to his old mechanics and routine, but that’s something that he hasn’t decided on yet.

“I’m trying to sit down and figure out something,” Glasnow said. “I don’t know what to do at this point. I need to get to the point where I’m not thinking about it, I’m connected and I find good mechanics that I’m not thinking about all the time.

“I don’t know if fully reverting back, or what to do at this point. I’m trying to figure it out.”

If Glasnow changes his mechanics again, a stint on the IL would be all but guaranteed to allow him to work through that. However, the Dodgers may decided to give him some time off regardless and hope he can reset.
