Dodgers Highlights: J.D. Martinez & Miguel Rojas Home Runs Against Tigers; Miguel Cabrera Tribute

J.D. Martinez hit two home runs against former teammate Eduardo Rodriguez to the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Detroit Tigers, extending their winning streak to four games.

That trails only the San Diego Padres (five games) for the longest active stretch in baseball. The Tigers went into the series opener at Dodger Stadium on a four-game winning streak.

Martinez’s first big swing provided L.A. with a 1-0 lead in the second inning, and his three-run shot put them up 5-0 in the third. Martinez now has 22 career multi-home run games, including four with the Dodgers this year.

Lance Lynn initially protected the lead by collecting six strikeouts over four scoreless innings. However, he gave up a three-run homer to Jake Rogers with two outs in the fifth.

Kiké Hernández’s RBI single in the sixth gave the Dodgers some breathing room, but he was also thrown out to end the inning when the relay throw got cut off.

Miguel Rojas continued with his hot hitting of late as he clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Martinez added an RBI single.

Alex Vesia, Caleb Ferguson, Shelby Miller and Joe Kelly combined for seven strikeouts over four perfect innings to finish out the win.

Dodgers celebrate Miguel Cabrera

Prior to first pitch, Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera was celebrated during a pregame ceremony in which he received a Hollywood Star and donation to his foundation.

Fellow Venezuelans Brusdar Graterol, David Peralta and Miguel Rojas were accompanied by Martinez, Cabrera’s former teammate, on the field for the special recognition.
