After starting Friday night against the San Diego Padres, Julio Urias is not making his turn in the upcoming time through the Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation. Manager Dave Roberts announced Kenta Maeda is slated to start Monday, Ross Stripling on Tuesday, and Brock Stewart on Wednesday.

Urias’ next start on regular rest would have come Wednesday in the three-game series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He won’t face the Miami Marlins when the Dodgers open a 10-game road trip on Friday, as that’s earmarked for Clayton Kershaw.

Urias went through stretches in his previous outing where he wasn’t particularly sharp. He nonetheless finished with six strikeouts and held the Padres to two runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

The runs scored on a Derek Norris double, given up by Jesse Chavez after he inherited the two baserunners.

The bigger story from the start was Urias was struck on his throwing hand during a bunt attempt. He was sent for X-rays and results came back negative.

Urias had his left index and middle fingers treated and wrapped after the game. He didn’t think the minor injury impacted his pitching.

Having the capacity to skip over the 20-year-old comes at an opportune time as Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman recently said Urias was approaching his innings limit.

Los Angeles attempted to move the young southpaw into the bullpen with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but Urias was again needed as a starter in the Majors due to injuries. He’s 5-2 with a 3.69 ERA, 3.15 FIP, 1.45 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 68.1 innings over 15 games (13 starts) with the Dodgers.

Urias is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his past seven games, five of which were starts.
