The last couple of months have not been easy for anyone in the United States due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but it does appear that there’s some light at the end of the tunnel.

Some of the country’s biggest sports leagues, such as Major League Baseball and the NBA, have begun laying out plans to return, with games potentially be played as soon as July.

MLB still has a lot of issues to sort out with the Players Association in regard to player safety and financial hurdles, but it seems that both sides are committed to getting the season underway sooner rather than later.

That is certainly good news for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who had an exciting offseason and will once again be one of the favorites to win the World Series in 2020.

While fans are eagerly awaiting the return of baseball, Joe Kelly explained why he feels it would be a positive for all and potentially amount to the sport gaining more fans, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“Whenever Major League Baseball returns, whether it’s early July or whatever ideas are getting kicked around, I think it’s going to be helpful for the American people in general. They don’t have to be a fan of baseball, but I think that with baseball returning, I think it’s going to bring in more fans than baseball has ever had. Just because it’s going to be sports to watch on TV.

“And like I’ve said, I try to take positives out of negatives. And I think it’s going to be an actual positive step for baseball, which is going to mean dads, moms, moms that maybe didn’t like baseball, kids that maybe didn’t like baseball, dads that maybe didn’t like baseball, it’s going to be families watching baseball together that maybe would never watch baseball before. I think there’s going to be a lot of new fans of the game of baseball and a lot of new fans of teams.”

While everyone obviously wants sports back to return to some form of normalcy, ensuring player safety has to continue to be the No. 1 priority. MLB has discussed a number of different options for the 2020 season, with teams playing at their home stadiums in a shortened season as the most likely scenario at this time.

It’s no secret that Kelly is excited to get back on the field as he recently broke a window at his home while working on a new changeup. He and his Dodgers teammates could resume team workouts in the coming weeks once logistics are worked out, again beginning their pursuit of a championship in 2020.
