Dodgers Video: Joe Kelly Breaks Window At Home While Working On Changeup

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has forced people all across the country to be quarantined to their homes as the wait for the 2020 Major League Baseball season continues.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and teams across the league were deep into Spring Training when everything got shut down. While the hope was that they would be able to remain in Arizona so they could continue working out at Camelback Ranch, the facility ended up getting closed altogether as well.

Thus, players were faced with the difficult task of heading home but still finding ways to carry forward with workouts in on their own in order to stay prepared for whenever the 2020 season is able to begin.

For Clayton Kershaw, that means playing catch with himself to keep his arm in shape. It appears that Joe Kelly is doing the same with a net in his backyard.

Kelly’s wife posted a video of the right-hander working on a new changeup, when one got away from him and broke a window at their home in Arizona.

While it may not be easy to find someone to repair the window during this difficult time, it is still hilarious that happened while Kelly was being filmed. Kelly explained on the “Petros and Money Show” that he grew comfortable with throwing a fastball at the net and decided to begin working on a different pitch.

Kelly is one of the hardest-throwing pitchers on the Dodgers, but it’s no secret that he can be a bit wild at times, and adding a new changeup to his repertoire would only make that even more true.

He infamously hit Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez on the ribs in Game 1 of the 2013 National League Championship Series while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, effectively ending L.A.’s chances at winning a World Series that year.

That may have left a bitter taste in Dodgers fans’ mouths, but it is good to see that he and his family are staying safe during this time and he is continuing to work out to try to get better for the 2020 season and beyond.
