Dodgers News: Brusdar Graterol’s Arm Feels ‘New’ After Surgery

Following the conclusion of the World Series, Brusdar Graterol was among the Los Angeles Dodgers players to undergo offseason surgery.

Graterol had surgery on his shoulder with what the Dodgers announced was a procedure to repair the labrum in his right shoulder. He spent much of the 2024 season on the injured list, pitching just 7.1 innings.

The right-hander said he dealt with plenty of frustration last year due to multiple injuries, which also included left hip trouble and shoulder inflammation.

But after his surgery and with Spring Training underway, Graterol is in high spirits, feeling like he has a fresh arm with no more pain, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern Califronia News Group:

Right-hander Brusdar Graterol said he feels like he has “a new arm” after surgery on his right shoulder in November. Graterol missed much of the 2024 season with recurring discomfort in his pitching shoulder. The surgery dealt with issues in his labrum and a ligament in his shoulder, he said.

“Thank God, it was not the rotator cuff,” he said.

Graterol didn’t make his season debut in 2024 until Aug. 6. That brought about more injury woes as he faced just three batters before suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain that initially was believed to be a season-ending hamstring tear.

However, an MRI confirmed a less severe injury and Graterol returned one month later but ended up back on the IL heading into the final weekend of the season due to more right shoulder trouble.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts declared him a ‘week-to-week situation’ and Graterol remained out until the World Series.

He pitched in three games against the New York Yankees, allowing one run, two hits and issuing four walks while collecting just one strikeout in 2.1 innings.

When will Brusdar Graterol return?

Graterol is expected to miss the first half of the 2025 season and should end up on the 60-day IL at some point.

The Dodgers have the bullpen depth to sustain his loss, and he should be able to return in the second half and make an impact for the club.

During the offseason, Graterol signed a one-year contract worth $2.8 million to avoid arbitration.
