The Los Angeles Dodgers received contributions from several players in their 15-2 blowout win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, including Kiké Hernández, who went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, and also pitched.

Hernández entered in the top of the seventh when manager Dave Roberts removed several starters from the game. The utility man played two defensive innings at first base before finishing his night on the mound.

Hernández allowed two hits in a scoreless ninth inning and made some MLB history along the way.

According to OptaSTATS, Hernández became the first player in the modern era (since 1901) to score at least two runs, play multiple positions and throw a scoreless inning in a game he did not start.

Hernández has now made six pitching appearances in his MLB career, including four last year and one for the Boston Red Sox during the 2018 season.

Hernández is in his ninth season with the Dodgers and third since rejoining the team at the 2023 MLB trade deadline.

Through 22 games, he is batting just .169/.242/.441 with one double, five home runs and 11 RBI in 67 plate appearances. Although his overall numbers leave a lot to be desired, Hernández continues to provide value with his versatility.

Kiké Hernández praised for ‘impressive display of leadership’

Hernández returned to the Dodgers on a one-year contract after a historic 2024 postseason in which he was also praised for the leadership he showed.
