The Los Angeles Dodgers began their three-game series at Chase Field with a big win, coming from behind to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-4. It lowered their magic number to clinch the National League West to five.
David Freese, who is turning out to be a key acquisition for the Dodgers, had another big night at the plate against Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray. He came through with an RBI single in the top of the first inning to give Los Angeles an early 1-0 lead, but his big hit of the night came in the top of the fifth.
With the Dodgers trailing 2-1, Freese launched an opposite-field home run off the laboring Ray to tie the game. Overall, Freese finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Freese wasn’t the only one to come up with a big hit as Max Muncy came off the bench in the seventh inning and ripped a single to left to drive in a run and once again tie the game.
The Dodgers took the lead later that inning on an RBI groundout by Manny Machado. Later n the game, Machado hit a double to right field that drove in a much-needed insurance run.
On the mound, Clayton Kershaw turned in another quality start to earn his ninth victory of the season. He allowed six hits, three runs and a walk in six innings while striking out six. He is in line to start one final regular season game this weekend.
