The Los Angeles Dodgers returned to Dodger Stadium on Monday after a 10-game road trip with a 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Bobby Miller was on the mound for his second career start and once again turned in an impressive line as he makes a strong case to stick around at the MLB level for the rest of the season.

Miller pitched six innings while giving up just one run on four hits. Miller only struck out four hitters, but he also limited the Nationals to just one walk.

His only blemish came in the second inning after a single and double put runners on second and third with one out. C.J. Abrams followed with a single to right field that drove in one, but a strong throw from Jason Heyward prevented another run from scoring.

With that run, the Nationals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but that was all they were able to muster in the game.

The Dodgers tied the game in the fifth inning when Heyward walked, Miguel Vargas reached on an error, and James Outman hit a sacrifice fly. Chris Taylor then grounded into a force out for the second out of the inning, but the Dodgers put together a two-out rally that has become a signature for the team.

Mookie Betts singled before Freddie Freeman doubled to drive him and Taylor in, giving the Dodgers their first lead of the game at 3-1. Freeman extended his hitting streak to 18 games in the process.

Will Smith then worked a walk and J.D. Martinez capped off the rally with his 11th home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Dodgers a 6-1 lead and a six-run fifth inning. Martinez has now hit safely in 13 consecutive games.

From there, the Dodgers pitching staff continued to pitch well as Victor González, Justin Bruihl and Shelby Miller each worked a scoreless inning, giving up just two hits and one walk total.

Dodgers prospect Bobby Miller had goal of pitching to Will Smith

The Dodgers have established somewhat of a pipeline with the University of Louisville over the past several years by drafting the likes of Smith, Miller and Dalton Rushing.

Smith made his MLB debut in 2019 and has become one of the top catchers in the sport while Miller just joined the Dodgers last week for his first experience at the Major League level.

Miller made his debut with Smith behind the plate, which the right-hander said was one of his goals.
