Dodgers Highlights: Cody Bellinger Hits Go-Ahead Grand Slam Vs. Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers again needed late heroics to defeat the San Francisco Giants, and it was Cody Bellinger who provided them with his seventh career grand slam in a 5-1 win. The Dodgers remained undefeated coming out of the All-Star break and extended their winning streak to six games.

Prior to that point, Tyler Anderson and Logan Webb went toe-to-toe through six innings. Webb struggled in the opening frame and walked three consecutive batters to bring in a run. He managed to be effectively wild from there and kept the Dodgers off the board.

That was despite Webb allowing five hits and walking four batters. Though, all of his walks came within the first two innings and surpassed the most Webb had given out in any start this season.

Anderson initially held the Dodgers’ lead by retiring the first eight batters faced. His no-hitter was broken up by Mike Yastrzemski beating the shift with a soft infield single that beat the shift. A walk followed, but Anderson stranded both runners.

The Giants wound up pulling even after a Max Muncy throwing error left runners at the corners with two outs in the fourth inning. Yermín Mercedes took advantage by fighting off an inside pitch to flare a game-tying RBI single into right field.

The game remained tied until Bellinger hit the Dodgers’ first grand slam of the season. The table had been set by Freddie Freeman’s leadoff single, Muncy reaching on an error and Jake Lamb getting hit by a pitch.

Bellinger close to LA Dodgers record

Bellinger now has seven grand slams in his career, which is one shy of tying Mike Piazza for the most in L.A. Dodgers franchise history.

Gil Hodges holds the Dodgers record with 14 grand slams, followed by Piazza and Carl Furillo with eight each. Bellinger is currently tied with Matt Kemp.
