Recap: Cody Bellinger’s Grand Slam Helps Dodgers Beat Giants For 6th Consecutive Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers put together another late rally to emerge with a 5-1 win over the San Francisco Giants, led by Cody Bellinger hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning. The Dodgers extended their winning streak to six games and remained 10.5 up on the San Diego Padres.

Logan Webb struggled with his control and walked three batters in a row to bring a run in during the first inning. Webb issued a fourth walk of the game in the second inning, which surpassed the most he had given out in any start this season.

It could be reasoned he was effectively wild, as the Dodgers only managed the one run off Webb during his six innings of work. He exited with the game locked in a 1-1 tie.

Tyler Anderson came out of the All-Star break on a strong note as he retired the first eight batters faced. Anderson’s no-hitter was broken up by Mike Yastrzemski hitting a chopper off the end of his bat that bounced down the third-base line to beat the shift for an infield single.

A walk followed but Anderson retired Wilmer Flores to end the threat. He couldn’t wiggle out of trouble in the fourth inning after an infield single was compounded by Max Muncy’s throwing error that put runners at the corners with two outs.

Yermín Mercedes immediately took advantage by fighting off an inside pitch for a game-tying RBI single. Like Webb, Anderson allowed just the one run over six innings. He bested the Giants’ right-hander by only allowing four hits and walking two batters, and finishing with six strikeouts.

The game remained deadlocked until a Freddie Freeman leadoff single in the eighth inning sparked a rally of sorts. Muncy reached on an error and Jake Lamb was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.

Bellinger battled back from an 0-2 count to hit his seventh career grand slam. The home run was his second against a left-handed pitcher this season.

Anderson reaches bonus in Dodgers contract

Anderson became the first Dodgers starting pitcher to throw 100 innings this season and in reaching the benchmark, triggered a $500,000 bonus that is part of his one-year contract.
