The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up their final homestand of the 2019 season with a 7-4 comeback win and extension of a franchise record. On Friday, they reached 3,875,656 in paid attendance at Dodger Stadium, setting a new all-time record.
With their two ensuing games against the Colorado Rockies, that figure closed at 3,974,309 (49,066 average) in attendance for 81 home games, which included 28 sellouts. It broke the record set last season, when Game 163 increased attendance to 3,857,500.
Last year’s mark narrowly eclipsed the previous franchise record — 3,857,036 during the 2007 season.
The Dodgers’ attendance this season is the 10th largest in Major League history and marked a seventh consecutive year they led in that category. L.A. previously made franchise history by reaching 3 million in attendance last month.
By doing so on Aug. 9, it represented the earliest date the Dodgers drew 3 million. It bested the previous date by just over one week (Aug. 17, 2007). That date also marked the fastest they reached 3 million in attendance at 62 games.
That record was previously held by the 2007 and 2015 clubs, which reached 3 million fans in 64 games.
With fans turning out at record rate, Dodger Stadium was witness to several memorable moments in 2019. The Dodgers lead the Majors with 12 walk-off wins, and there have been historic performances by Walker Buehler and Hyun-Jin Ryu, and thrilling hits from Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner and others.
Dodger Stadium has also seen the MLB debuts of Will Smith, Dustin May and Gavin Lux, plus early stages of the careers of Kyle Garlick, Tony Gonsolin and Edwin Rios. Furthermore, the team’s 59 home wins are the most since moving from Brooklyn and second-best overall.
While interest during the regular season has become a regularity, the Dodgers also fared well in attendance at Camelback Ranch during Spring Training this year. The club played 15 designated home games and averaged 10,326 in attendance.
They finished their Cactus League schedule with 154,884 total attendance, which marked their third-highest at Camelback Ranch. The Dodgers’ average additionally was the second-highest since the team moved its Spring Training home.
