Dodgers Roster: Andre Lipcius Clears Waivers & Sent Outright To Triple-A Oklahoma City

Andre Lipcius cleared waivers and was sent outright to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Baseball Club, where he will begin the season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers designated Lipcius for assignment on March 16 as the corresponding move to adding Daniel Hudson onto their 40-man roster. Hudson had traveled with the team to South Korea and needed to join the 40-man in order to then be included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series.

Prior to that point, Lipcius went 2-for-4 with one RBI in two Cactus League games for the Dodgers.

He was acquired from the Detroit Tigers earlier this month in exchange for cash considerations. Clayton Kershaw was put on the 60-day injured list at the time of the trade so the Dodgers could add Lipcius to their 40-man roster.

Lipcius appeared in 13 games for the Tigers last season, hitting .286/.342/.400 with a 107 wRC+, one double, one home run and four RBI in 38 plate appearances. But some shaky defense resulted in Lipcius producing -0.2 wins above replacement (WAR) during that span.

Over his Minor League career, the 25-year-old has played all four infield positions in addition to the corner outfield, but is primarily a third baseman. Lipcius was picked by the Tigers in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Shortly after being traded to the Dodgers, Lipcius told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA he was excited to join the organization and he had long been a target of theirs.

Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers name change

The Oklahoma City Dodgers are undergoing a branding change that includes utilizing new logos and uniforms for the 2024 Minor League season as they work toward establishing a different team name.

They plan to go by Oklahoma City Baseball Club as a temporary name and following the conclusion of the 2024 season, OKC team officials will unveil a new permanent identity.

“For the last nine years, it has been an honor and a privilege to share one of the most iconic brands in all of professional sports,” Oklahoma City Baseball Club president and general manager Michael Byrnes said in a statement.

“However, we’re excited this new era affords us the opportunity to strengthen our connection to our community and reinforce that we are Oklahoma City’s team.”
