The Los Angeles Dodgers (86-46) have lost just three series since the MLB All-Star break, but two of them have come recently against teams they could potentially meet in the postseason.

The Dodgers dropped two of three games to the visiting New York Yankees over the weekend, and now they will play the role of visitors when they travel to San Diego to take on the Padres (60-69) as solid road favorites.

Dodgers at Padres | OddsShark Matchup Report

L.A. is listed at -164 (bet $164 to win $100) on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for the series opener on Monday. Rookie Dustin May (1-2, 4.26 ERA) is starting after his last appearance came in relief a little over a week ago. The Padres are +142 underdogs (bet $100 to win $142) at sports betting sites.

May blew a lead opportunity against the Atlanta Braves in a 5-3 road loss on Aug. 18, surrendering four runs and three hits in just two innings of work. The big blow was a grand slam he served up to Rafael Ortega in the sixth inning, and the Dodgers are hoping that one hit does not ruin the rookie’s confidence heading into this outing.

Countering for San Diego in the first game will be southpaw Eric Lauer (6-8, 4.47 ERA), who has earned only one victory for his squad since June 3. The good news for the Padres is that Lauer has not suffered a loss either since July 25, winning in three of his past four trips to the mound.

He allowed one run and four hits in four innings of a 3-2 road win over the Cincinnati Reds one week ago, walking two batters and striking out five.

San Diego ended a four-game skid with a 3-1 victory against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, and the team has split four of the previous eight matchups with Los Angeles. The Padres took three of four games from the Dodgers between July 4-7 before dropping three of four at Chavez Ravine to kick off the month of August.

The UNDER has cashed in seven of the past nine meetings, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.
