Mason Ligenza, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round at No. 195 overall, has decided to forgo signing and will attend college.

Ligenza had a commitment to play for the University of Pittsburgh, and announced his intent to join them on his Twitter (now known as X).

Ligenza is an outfielder from Pennsylvania and was the Dodgers’ second high school selection in three picks during this year’s Draft. He was the No. 217 ranked prospect in the class according to MLB Pipeline.

The slot value for the Dodgers to sign Ligenza was $317,200, but they would have to go over slot to sign him given he was a high school prospect and could conceivably receive more if he’s selected earlier in a future MLB draft.

Ligenza, who stands 6’6 and weighs 204 pounds, batted .448 with 11 home runs and 16 RBI this season. He also stole 27 bases in 23 games.

Due to his size, strength, athletic ability, Ligenza figured to have a ton of upside, although he did come with some question marks.

The quality of competition Ligenza faced in high school was his biggest unknown. struggles against quality arms at showcases raised concerning swing-and-miss issues.

Ligenza profiles as a power bat from the left-handed batter’s box at the next level. He also has an above-average arm to boot.

Ligenza will now get the opportunity to further develop his game on both offense and defense while trying to prove himself against better competition. He also can fill out more physically and learn how to better utilize his athletic tools and body.

The Dodgers rank 24th among all teams with a bonus pool of $9,031,300 for their 2025 MLB Draft picks. Bonus pools are calculated by adding the slot values of every pick through the first 10 rounds.

Any signing bonus amount more than $125,000 for draft picks after the 10th round or undrafted free agents signings also count against pool money.

They can now use the money saved by not signing Ligenza on some of their other selections. Teams very rarely sign their entire draft class, so this is very commonplace.

Dodgers 2025 draft selections signed

The Dodgers came to agreements with their first three picks of the 2025 Draft: Zach Root, Charles Davalan and Cam Leiter. In addition, they also signed third-round selection Landyn Vidourek.

Following their top picks, they’ve reportedly signed David Hickson (fifth-round), Mason Estrada (seventh-round), Jack O’Connor (eighth-round), Conner O’Neal (ninth-round), Jacob Frost (10th round), Logan Lunceford (12th round), Robby Porco (13th round), Davis Chastain (14th round), Matt Lanzendorfer (15th round), AJ Soldra (16th round) and Anson Aroz (19th round).
