Game 3 of the National League Championship Series was a frustrating one for everyone involved in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. From the players to the coaches, front office, ownership and even the fans.

The Milwaukee Brewers took an early lead on the Dodgers and then coasted to a 4-0 victory to take a 2-1 series lead. Los Angeles suffered defeat in large part to going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

After the game, one player who was particularly frustrated was Kiké Hernandez. A favorite among fans called out the fan base for being quieter than usual throughout the course of the game and also criticized for booing struggling catcher Yasmani Grandal.

A day later, Hernandez took to Twitter to issue an apology to Dodgers fans for calling them out and hopes that the Dodgers can get back to playing well and the fans can get back to cheering Tuesday night in Game 4:

On a serious note, I’d like to apologize to all who thought that I was blaming the fans for last night. That’s not what I said nor will I EVER say such thing! Tweets can be taken out of context when the whole story is not there and that was the case last night. I was really frustrated after the game and as a competitor, I was frustrated because of the way we played and the way I performed. I haven’t done anything this series but that doesn’t affect me that much as long as we win; last night we didn’t and it got to me.

I know these things come across as a surprise to a lot of people considering all the love that the Dodger fans have showed me since the very first time I stepped foot at Dodger Stadium. Throughout the years, I’ve never given any excuses. Not when I was the worst player on the team, nor when we’ve come up sort of the goal the past three years (years I’ve been here), so I won’t start now! Calling Dodger Stadium “home” is truly a privilege and a blessing!!! Something I don’t ever take for granted! The atmosphere there is one that you can’t find anywhere else. Last night felt off, it was just a weird day overall.

Again, we played like SH*T! Unacceptable game to have during the postseason, especially at home. The term “take the crowd out of it early” for every road team is actually a THING! Last night, the Brewers did just that. Put us against the wall early and never looked back! Momentum is a huge part of sports and it can change very quickly just with a little bit of electricity and that’s why it’s never easy to win games on the road especially during the playoffs.

Again, what I said last night doesn’t portray the way I truly feel about you guys! You guys are the best fans in baseball and that’s why we lead baseball in attendance every single year! I love you guys and I’ll never stop being grateful for the way that you have embraced the weirdo that I am! Tonight we’re gonna give everything we have out on that field and play the baseball that we’re capable of playing and give you guys tons of reasons to cheer for!

Sincerely,
Kiké/Kiki

Hernandez’s original comments were a bit out of character, but given how frustrated he was with his own and the team’s lackluster performances, fans should not take them to heart.

The Dodgers once again led the league in home attendance in 2018, which Hernandez alluded to in his apology as he realizes how great Dodger fans throughout the country have been for many years.

Game 4 on Tuesday night is a big one for Hernandez and his team, with the Dodgers looking to even the series up at two apiece.
