Jackie Robinson Day Game Preview: Tyler Glasnow Starts For Dodgers

After dropped a series to the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers now host the Washington Nationals for a three-game set that begins with Jackie Robinson Day.

Every year on April 15, teams, players, managers and coaches have the opportunity to wear Robinson’s historic No. 42. Regardless of primary team colors, No. 42 on every jersey is in Dodger Blue.

Commemorative base jewels and lineup cards will be used for each game, Stance socks with the “42” logo will be worn, and New Era caps are to feature a “42” side patch. During batting practice, a Nike Breaking Barriers t-shirt will be worn.

Tyler Glasnow gets the start for his fifth outing of the season. He’s coming off a historic start where he struck out 14 hitters over seven innings, giving up just three hits with no runs and no walks.

The Dodgers need another strong outing from Glasnow after their pitching staff was on the other end of the spectrum against the Padres, walking 14 hitters in their loss Sunday.

Glasnow has pitched five innings in all of his starts so far, including six or more in his last three. He has given up just six runs total across 24 innings, giving him a 2.25 ERA with a 0.75 WHIP and 29 strikeouts.

Glasnow is going to be backed by a Dodgers bullpen that includes a fresh option in Ricky Vanasco. J.P. Feyereisen was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to Vanasco getting recalled. Should Vanasco pitch in his first game with the Dodgers, it also will represent his MLB debut.

The Nationals counter with Mitchell Parker, who is making his MLB debut. The left-hander made one start at Triple-A Rochester this season, where he pitched four innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit with five strikeouts.

Over his Minor League career, the 24-year-old owns a 4.15 ERA in 76 games (72 starts) over 329.2 innings.
