Dodgers Roster: Ricky Vanasco Recalled From Oklahoma City, J.P. Feyereisen Optioned

The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen shuffling continued Monday with Ricky Vanasco recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and J.P. Feyereisen optioned just two days after he was added to the active roster.

Feyereisen joined the Dodgers on their trip to South Korea and made the Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series. He pitched in the finale of the two-game series against the San Diego Padres and faced them once again on Sunday night.

Neither appearance went particularly well for the right-hander as he allowed three runs in both games. Feyereisen completed a full inning in the Seoul Series but retired just one batter in the latest series finale between the Padres and Dodgers.

That included giving up what held as a game-winning three-run double to Jurickson Profar, who gained a bit of redemption after Will Smith called him “kind of irrelevant.”

Feyereisen is looking to navigate a successful return from right shoulder surgery that prevented him from pitching during the 2023 season. The Dodgers acquired Feyereisen in a December 2022 trade that sent Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ricky Vanasco gets opportunity with Dodgers

Vanasco re-signed with the Dodgers early into the offseason on a split contract after becoming a Minor League free agent. The new deal added him to their 40-man roster.

“Ricky is a four-pitch pitcher,” manager Dave Roberts said during Spring Training. “He’s got really good stuff to get righties out, get lefties out. We’re just trying to continue to harness that command, because when he’s in the strike zone, the stuff plays.”

Vanasco has appeared in four games for Oklahoma City this season, converting three saves and allowing just one run and collecting eight strikeouts. Vanasco’s first game with the Dodgers will also represent his MLB debut.

Over seven Minor League seasons, the 25-year-old is 10-14 with a 3.44 ERA. He primarily was utilized as a starting pitcher while in the Texas Rangers farm system.

Landon Knack and Kyle Hurt are candidates to follow Vanasco in joining the Dodgers roster this week.
