Why Dodgers Merchandise Was For Sale Inside Oracle Park

A strong number of Los Angeles Dodgers fans were on hand throughout the weekend series against the San Francisco Giants, and they had an unusual option of purchasing merchandise inside Oracle Park.

Although the Dodgers and Giants share a long history that dates back to their time in New York, fans of the visiting team won’t find any clothing or other memorabilia for a road contest, unless playing at a neutral site. However, that changed this past weekend when Dodgers merchandise was for sale at Oracle Park.

It came to light when an angered Giants fan posted pictures of the stand that had an array of Dodgers sweatshirts and caps.

In response to the incident, Giants senior vice president of public affairs and community relations Shana Daum explained there was confusion with an Oracle Park vendor, per Evan Webeck of The Mercury News

A Giants spokesperson said on Sunday that it was a result of a mix-up with a third-party vendor. The vendor, Sevynn’s Negro League Apparel, is a subcontractor of the Giants’ concessionaire, Bon Appetit, according to Giants senior vice president of public affairs and community relations Shana Daum.

While the stand is “very popular” and typically sells vintage apparel, Daum said, on Saturday it was pictured with various Dodger- branded merchandise.

“We’ve spoken to Bon Appetit and have been reassured that selling Dodgers merchandise will not happen again in the future,” Daum said in a text message.

Although Dodgers clothing was being sold inside Oracle Park, the stand also had items representing the San Francisco Seals.

Revenue and purchasing information from the stand was not made public.

Dodgers dominant against Giants

As for matters on the field, the Dodgers finished 15-4 against the Giants this season, breaking the franchise record for most wins in their head-to-head meetings in a single year since moving from Brooklyn.
