Vin Scully Unlikely To Attend World Series If Dodgers Win National League Pennant

Vin Scully Weekend began with a heartfelt on-field ceremony to honor the Hall of Fame broadcaster prior to the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Scully received a Key to the City from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Scully is calling his final home games, and will conclude his career on Sunday, Oct. 2, when the Dodgers wrap up their regular-season slate in the finale of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

There was hope the 88-year-old would call potential postseason games, but Scully recently explained he won’t, so as to avoid a drawn-out swan song.

And don’t expect to see Scully if the Dodgers make a deep postseason run. “Probably not,” Scully answered when asked on a national conference call if he would attend the Fall Classic if the Dodgers win the National League pennant.

Los Angeles is in pursuit of a fourth straight NL West division title. They last reached, and won, the World Series in 1988. The best they’ve fared since that point is reaching the NL Championship Series in 2008, 2009 and 2013.

While the final games at Dodger Stadium are sure to stir the emotions, Scully told Rich Eisen he expects the grand finale in San Francisco will be a moment unlike any he’s faced thus far during the unofficial retirement tour.

“I’ve tried to just look at it as another period in my life that will eventually come to an end,” Scully said. “Although, I realize for sure that last game in San Francisco, knowing is the last game, that will probably be an emotional hurdle that I’ll have to get over when I get there.”
