Scott Boras Doesn’t Believe Past Between Carlos Correa & Dodgers Should Impact Free Agency

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in another offseason similar approach to last year, with the anchor of their middle-infield being a free agent in Trea Turner, who is one of the most coveted players on the open market.

But with a potential vacancy at shortstop, the team has to consider all options at such a critical position, and agent Scott Boras believes the Dodgers might have to let the past be the past and turn the page with Carlos Correa.

Having to replace Turner is no small task, and slotting in the two-hole in the Dodgers lineup, he clubbed 21 home runs on his way to 100 RBI, and also scored 101 runs, which ranked fifth in the National League.

Turner spent 228 games in a Dodgers uniform, regular and postseason combined after being traded out West along with Max Scherzer at the 2021 trade deadline. Unfortunately, the club failed to meet expectations and reach the Fall Classic, only to watch the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros celebrate World Series titles.

And regardless of Correa’s past with the Dodgers, Boras believes they will make a free agency decision with only the future in mind, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I don’t think anybody cares about something that occurred long ago and is now remedied,” Boras said. “Because their goal is they have to win. And it’s hard to win. You don’t let certain things get in the way in professional sports. I can go back and think of a lot of things historically that have occurred. Rivalries – Red Sox players playing for the Yankees, Yankees players playing for the Red Sox, Giants and Dodgers players moving to one another. That is all something that’s common in professional baseball. So I would expect that teams are always going to do what’s best for them that they feel will help them to be competitive.”

Correa’s part in the 2017 Astros cheating scandal has sat with Dodgers fans and many wouldn’t open their arms if L.A. is his next destination.

But after signing the richest annual average salary for an infielder in MLB history last offseason, it’s clear that Correa is one of the most talented options available. He batted .291/.366/.467 with 24 doubles, 22 home runs and 64 RBI across 136 games while playing strong defense at shortstop.

Boras represents a majority of the top players in Major League Baseball, and with enough chatter after a few more playoff blunders, the Dodgers-linked interest in Correa could be more than just smoke.

Carlos Correa interest

Up to this point there hasn’t been much speculation involving Correa, outside of the Dodgers having reported interest.
