The 2024 season has not been kind to Bobby Miller, and his struggles continued as the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, 10-1.

Both teams failed to score in the first inning, but the Phillies got on the board in the second inning when Rafael Marchán singled home Brandon Marsh after a walk. A single from Johan Ramírez and a wild pith by Miller then put two runners in scoring position.

Kyle Schwarber followed with a single to drive in two more runs, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. It was a much-needed break for the Dodgers, but still put them in a 3-0 hole.

Going into the fourth inning, that lead remained, but the Phillies ended up breaking it open. A single from Marsh and double by Marchán put two in scoring position before Rojas singled home the fourth run of the game.

Schwarber then worked a walk to load the bases, and Trea Turner took advantage of it. On the first pitch he saw, Turner blasted a grand slam to double the lead, making it 8-0.

And just for good measure, Bryson Stott capped off the inning with a solo home run to make it a 9-0 ball game.

That ended up being Miller’s final frame as he finished his night going four innings, allowing nine runs on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts. All nine runs were earned.

The 25-year-old now has an 8.07 ERA in 29 innings with a 1.83 WHIP and just 27 strikeouts on the season. The Dodgers entered the year with high expectations for him, but Miller has been unable to meet them and missed time with an injury.

The Dodgers somewhat answered the Phillies’ big inning, although softly, as Cavan Biggio hit his first home run with the Dodgers in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to eight runs.

However, the Phillies added that run back in the seventh inning when Marsh hit a solo home run.

Kiké Hernández ended up pitching, proving to be the only effective Dodger on the mound with 1.1 scoreless innings.

Dodgers lose Tyler Glasnow to injury

There wasn’t much positive to take away from the game, and the day also started out poorly when Tyler Glasnow was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Glasnow is dealing with a lower back issue that is believed to be minor. It happened on Sunday while Glasnow was playing catch, so the Dodgers are hoping to get ahead of the issue, rather than letting it linger.

He was replaced on the National League All-Star team by Hunter Greene, while Gavin Stone remains on the outside looking in.
