Rams Quarterback Jared Goff Maintaining Ties To Giants While Rooting For Dodgers

With the Los Angeles Dodgers looking to snap their World Series drought, other professional sports teams in the city have voiced their support throughout the season. Dating back to last year, that’s proven tricky for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff.

Born and raised in northern California, Goff has been a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan all his life. He received some backlash over a tweet directed at Yasiel Puig that was sent well in advance of becoming the top pick of the NFL Draft.

Goof worked to make amends for the situation when he threw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium, apologized to Puig and posed for pictures. Now in his second season and year in Los Angeles, Goff has further softened on the Dodgers.

The young quarterback explained he still roots for the Giants but is also pleased whenever the Dodgers do well, via ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez:

“Any time the Giants are playing, I’m rooting for them,” Goff said. “But yeah, the year the Dodgers have had has been exciting for the entire city of L.A. There are a couple guys on the team that I am friends with. I’m rooting for them. If their team wins, I’m excited.”

Goff’s first season with the Rams didn’t pan out as expected, as he was held off the field until halfway into the season. The Rams went 0-7 with Goff under center, he threw for 1,089 passing yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

There were doubts heading into the 2017 season, but Goff and the Rams put together an impressive performance in their opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Goff completed 21 of 29 pass attempts, threw for 306 yards and one touchdown.

Goff presumably will receive some slack from friends and family over his accepting of the Dodgers, but his allegiance to the Los Angeles area may just as well make life easier for him. Including Tuesday, Goff has five games remaining this season where the Dodgers and Giants will pull at his heart strings.
