Giants Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Second Half Begins With Homestand

The Los Angeles Dodgers begin the second half of their 2022 schedule at Dodger Stadium with a four-game series against the division-rival San Francisco Giants.

L.A. won four straight games prior to the All-Star break, including nine of their last 10, and they have been victorious in five consecutive series. That extended their lead in the National League West standings to 10 games over the San Diego Padres.

The Giants, meanwhile, are a half-game out of the third Wild Card spot, which makes this is an important series for them to keep their postseason hopes on track.

The Dodgers send Mitch White to the mound in the series opener. He is looking to rebound after being hit hard by the St. Louis Cardinals his last time out. The right-hander gave up six earned runs in five innings on 10 hits while only managing to strike out three hitters.

After the start, the Dodgers were investigating if White was tipping his pitches, but the 27-year-old didn’t believe that was the case.

However, he has been effective overall this season as he has allowed three runs or fewer in the rest of his outings. White owns a 4.20 ERA and 4.24 FIP across 45 innings while striking out 21.8% of hitters and walking 8.8%. In two July starts, he has posted a 5.06 ERA.

The Giants counter with Carlos Rodón, who was one of their All-Star representatives in his first season with the club. He has already faced the Dodgers twice this season, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on May 3, and pitching six more frames with no runs allowed on June 12.

So far in July, Rodón owns a 2.84 ERA across three starts with one complete game. Overall, the left-hander has pitched to a 2.66 ERA and 2.14 FIP across 105 innings with a 30.8% strikeout rate and 8.2% walk rate.

Against southpaws, the Dodgers are batting .249/.327/.414 with a 111 wRC+, which is slightly down from the overall line of .255/.333/.437 with a 119 wRC+. The Giants are hitting .238/.322/.403 with a 107 wRC+ overall, but they have been a bit worse against right-handers, slashing .234/.320/.387 with a 103 wRC+.
