MLB Players Weekend is returning in August, marking the first time it’s being held since the 2019 season.

The concept was originally agreed upon and introduced by the league and MLB Players Association in 2017. It then spanned across three seasons and featured specially-designed jerseys, caps, bats and equipment.

The Dodgers are playing the St. Louis Cardinals in a road series when 2024 Players Weekend is held from Aug. 16-18. That includes a nationally televised game for Fox Saturday baseball with first pitch scheduled for 4:15 p.m. PT.

Players’ interests, backstories and charitable causes that are important to them will be highlighted throughout Players Weekend 2024.

A different aspect of players lives will be highlighted each day through game presentation elements in-stadium, broadcast enhancements with media partners, including the release of social media content and more.

MLB Players Weekend details

Points of emphasis throughout the three days are due to be on fun, causes and appreciation.

FUN (Friday, Aug. 16): Fun aspects of players’ personalities, friendships and off-field interests will be featured.

CAUSES (Saturday, Aug. 17): Focus on charitable and community initiatives that are important to players.

APPRECIATION (Sunday, Aug. 18): Players will celebrate the people who helped them on their path to the Major Leagues.

Players Weekend nicknames?

One notable change for Players Weekend 2024 is going to be the absence of jerseys with nicknames. Furthermore, player uniforms are not going to be altered in any way for what the league has deemed a “reimagined” weekend.

Although themed uniforms were synonymous with Players Weekend, reaction to the designs was not overwhelmingly popular. It’s unclear if that potentially was a factor behind this year’s decision.

Players Weekend is going to include special New Era caps featuring a uniform number on the side panel in a youthful design. Players also will be able to utilize customized bats during the games and can continue with wearing cleats that have personalized designs.
