Dodgers Video: Vin Scully Reasons With Accepting Players Weekend Uniforms For Series Against Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed the New York Yankees to town for a three-game series at Dodger Stadium this weekend, renewing one of baseball’s oldest rivalries.

The two historic franchises have met in the World Series a record 11 times, although the last was back in 1981. Prior to their current three games, they hadn’t played a regular-season series since 2016 at Yankee Stadium.

When the two teams took the field this weekend it looked a little different than usual as they were not wearing their iconic uniforms. Instead, the Dodgers were dressed in all white and the Yankees in all black to celebrate MLB’s annual Players Weekend.

A lot of fans, players and coaches throughout the league, including managers Dave Roberts and Aaron Boone, took exception with the uniforms that aren’t exactly easy on the eyes.

However, retired Dodgers legendary broadcaster Vin Scully narrated a video explaining why it is OK for them to wear these uniforms this weekend:

The Yankees took the first game of the series, 10-2, on Friday night before the Dodgers returned the favor with a 2-1 victory on Saturday. That set the stage for the series finale and national audience on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, which the Yankees won.

Considering the Dodgers and Yankees have the two best records in all of baseball, this weekend’s series has been billed as a potential World Series preview.

If that is the case, then Scully presumably will be narrating more videos about the rivalry in October, and fans will get the chance to see the two teams on the same field in their iconic uniforms after all.
