The Los Angeles Dodgers were without Adrian Gonzalez in their lineup for a third consecutive game as they concluded the four-game Freeway Series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The matchup featured a pair of dueling right-handers in Ross Stripling and Jhoulys Chacin.

Chase Utley opened the game with a drag bunt toward second base, beating the Angels shift that had Johnny Giavotella playing in shallow right field. Utley then advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored from third base with two outs on Chacin’s second wild pitch of the inning.

Howie Kendrick worked a two-out walk, but was stranded as Joc Pederson grounded out to first base. Yunel Escobar led off the bottom of the first with a base hit to center field and moved into scoring position with one out on a Stripling wild pitch.

Mike Trout then tied the game with an RBI single to left field. After Trout stole second base, Stripling walked Albert Pujols to put two on with one out. He worked his way out of the inning by getting C.J. Cron to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.

Chacin picked up a strikeout in the second inning as he retired Trayce Thompson, Yasmani Grandal and Yasiel Puig in order. Giavotella led off the bottom of the second with a base hit, but was stranded as the next three batters went down in order.

Utley reached on a flare single to left field with one out in the third. He then advanced from second to third base with two outs on a Corey Seager infield single to deep in the hole at shortstop.
