Freddie Freeman: Starting All-Star Game In Atlanta ‘Sounds Pretty Cool’

The Atlanta Braves are hosting the 2025 MLB All-Star Game at Truist Park on July 15, and Freddie Freeman has been in strong position to be among those representing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

That possibility comes with added sentimental value for Freeman due to beginning his career with the Braves and becoming a franchise cornerstone before signing with the Dodgers in 2022. Moving on from the Braves initially was a struggle for Freeman and he was emotional upon returning to Atlanta.

Taking all of that into account, Freeman said he would be all the more appreciative to start in the 2025 All-Star Game, via “Dodger Talk” with David Vassegh:

“That sounds pretty cool. It does. Go out and vote for all of us. That would be pretty cool to go there and represent the Dodgers in the All-Star Game, especially with our coaching staff being the coaching staff for the All-Star team. I think that’s pretty special. So if we can get as many guys there as possible, that would be pretty cool. Obviously, in the park I saw being built and spent a lot of time there, that would definitely be pretty cool. So we’ll see what happens in the next month.”

During his Braves career, Freeman was a five-time All-Star, an MVP and won the World Series in 2021, among other accolades. Freeman received his World Series ring from the Braves when the Dodgers first played at Truist Park in 2022.

The Braves are hosting an All-Star Game for the first time since 2000, which was played at Turner Field. They were awarded the 2021 All-Star Game as well but MLB moved it to Coors Field in response to concerns over a Georgia voting law disproportionately impacting minorities.

The Braves franchise has also hosted an All-Star Game in Boston in 1936, and in Milwaukee in 1955 before moving to Atlanta for the 1966 season.

Freeman led all National League first basemen in voting throughout the first round and advanced to Phase 2. He’s squaring off against New York Mets’ Pete Alonso to start for the NL at first base.
