Freddie Freeman: Dodgers Had ‘Clunker’ In Rain-Soaked Loss To Cubs

Freddie Freeman has been open about not having his ideal feeling at the plate this season, and some of that manifested Sunday in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 8-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Freeman went 1-for-3 in the series finale at Wrigley Field and also committed a rare error at first base. That occurred prior to conditions becoming untenable because of rain that eventually caused a delay in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Overall, the Dodgers committed three errors and managed just four hits while leaving five runners on base.

Following the loss, Freeman downplayed the Dodgers needing to be overly concerned with the results of the game, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“You just write that one off as a clunker,” Freeman said after the long soggy day. “We didn’t catch the ball for Gavin. Didn’t hit.

“Just a bad day.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts offered a similar sentiment to Freeman in moving on from the loss:

“I think today is one of those days you just want to wash (away),” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Sunday’s defeat amounted to a series loss for the Dodgers, which was their first this season. Prior to dropping two of three to the Cubs, the worst the Dodgers had experienced was a split with the San Diego Padres in the Seoul Series.

Freeman went a combined 2-for-10 with three strikeouts and two walks over the weekend.

Freddie Freeman struggles with errors

Freeman has committed two errors so far this season, and remarked after the first one — which came in a Dodgers win — that it was going to sit with him.

“I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight because of that last throw,” Freeman said on April 1.
