Dodgers Video: Vin Scully Signs Off From Final Broadcast Of 67-Year Career

Whereas the Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up Vin Scully’s career at Dodger Stadium with a Hollywood ending last weekend, the only on-field celebration to be had Sunday was the San Francisco Giants clinching a spot in the National League Wild Card Game.

The Giants jumped on Kenta Maeda early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and extending it to 5-0 in the third. San Francisco went on for a 7-1 rout, as Matt Moore became the latest lefty to stymy the Dodgers’ offense.

At the risk of using a cliché, the game was much bigger than the Dodgers and Giants as it marked the last broadcast of Scully’s Hall-of-Fame career.

He was celebrated by the Giants organization throughout the day, with fans in attendance receiving placards that read, “Thank You Vin.”

The Giants also hung a plaque in the TV booth in Scully’s honor, involving Willie Mays in the mid-game honor. Once the third out was recorded in the ninth inning it was time for Scully to say goodbye one final time.

He decided against calling postseason games so as not to prolong his retirement. Scully didn’t rule out attending the World Series should the Dodgers reach the Fall Classic, but there of course aren’t any certainties.

So with that, it was time for Scully to sign off from his final broadcast. There was first a recorded message that was filled with the same grace and humility Scully had throughout his illustrious career:

And after that, Scully offered a closing thought:
