The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their homestand with a 38th sellout of the season, which didn’t come as any surprise considering it was Lakers Day at Dodger Stadium. The speciality date historically is one of the Dodgers’ more popular home games due to crossover with the teams.

This year saw Russell Westbrook, along with the Laker Girls and 2020 Larry O’Brien trophy make their way to Dodger Stadium for the annual celebration. Westbrook arrived roughly one hour before first pitch and he drew plenty of cheers upon first stepping onto the field.

Per tradition for players and other members from the storied NBA franchise who are on hand for Lakers Day, Westbrook spent time in the Dodgers clubhouse.

Once back on the field, Westbrook spoke with Mookie Betts, who also is a Jordan Brand athlete and has a longstanding interest in basketball. They were briefly joined by noted Lakers fan Kenley Jansen, and Justin Turner posed for photos with Westbrook.

Turner also was behind the plate to catch the first pitch from the new Lakers point guard. Westbrook did not go all the way onto the mound and although the throw was outside the strike zone, it certainly wasn’t anything to be ashamed of.

Westbrook finished his duties as Lakers representative by announcing Vin Scully’s traditional “It’s time for Dodger baseball!” call.

Dodgers honor Lakers

Prior to the L.A. native throwing out the first pitch, the Dodgers recognized theirs and the Lakers’ 2020 championship with a tribute video. It marked the second time the teams won a title in the same year, with the first instance coming in 1988.

Unfortunately, neither team was afforded the customary parade champions receive because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.”
