Dodgers Video: David Ross, Cubs Manager Joe Maddon Present Flag To Vin Scully

Throughout the 2016 season multiple opposing players and personnel have made their way up to the press box to visit with Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully. With this being Scully’s final season in the booth, the primary objective has been to get a photograph with the golden voice of baseball.

Though, Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon and backup catcher David Ross came bearing gifts during their visit with Scully on Friday afternoon. For Ross, it was a reunion of sorts as he was drafted by the Dodgers in 1998.

He made his Major League debut with the club in 2002, and appeared in 118 games with the Dodgers over parts of three seasons. He’s set to retire after this year.

Ross and Maddon presented Scully with a ’67’ from the Wrigley Field scoreboard; a reference to this being Scully’s 67th season as a broadcaster.

Scully was also given the ‘Dodgers’ flag from the Cubs’ home ballpark. “I can fly that over the house. No I won’t,” Scully quipped. Maddon gifted Scully a few of his trademark t-shirts including, ‘Try Not To Suck’ and ‘Do Simple Better’ designs.

“That made my day,” Ross said. “Who doesn’t like talking to Vin? He puts a smile on your face, he’s full of energy, says all the right things, and remembers me. I don’t even remember some of the stuff he brought up.”

In similar fashion to the Cubs making their only trip to Dodger Stadium this season, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz took advantage of the opportunity to meet Scully earlier this month.
