Dodgers Spring Training Highlights: Andrew Toles, Logan Forsythe Go Deep In Win Over Angels

The Los Angeles Dodgers moved to 7-6-1 on the spring as they defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 4-2 at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Wednesday.

The matchup featured Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw facing baseball’s best in Mike Trout and the highly-touted Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Kershaw got the best of Ohtani, striking him out with his patented breaking ball.

Kershaw also got Trout to groundout, in addition to walking him in his second at-bat. Kershaw finished the day after three scoreless innings pitched, allowing three hits while striking out and walking two in his third Cactus League outing.

The Dodgers offense came alive a bit in the middle innings against Angels lefty John Lamb. Andrew Toles smacked a breaking ball over the right-field wall for a solo home run in the sixth inning.

The homer was Toles’ second of the spring as he looks to be healthy coming off last season’s season-ending knee injury. In eight games this spring Toles is 7-for-19 (.368 batting average) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Cody Bellinger then walked against Lamb in the seventh inning, which later led to a two-run home run by Logan Forsythe. He’s tearing the cover off the ball thus far, going 7-for-14 with two home runs, two doubles and six RBIs in just five games. Prior to his home run, Forsythe drove in the game’s first run with a double.

The Dodgers return to the field Thursday as they travel to Goodyear Ballpark to take on the Cleveland Indians. The game is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT, which marks the first night game for the Dodgers this spring.
