Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Omar Estevez was named the Texas League Player of the Month for April 2019. He’s the first member of the Double-A Tulsa Drillers to receive the honor since Jacob Scavuzzo in August of last year.

At the Major League level, Cody Bellinger was named National League Player of the Month after a historic start to the 2019 season. Although Estevez did not shatter records in the way Belliner did, he certainly was a worthy winner.

For the month of April, Estevez led the Texas League in hits (30), doubles (30) and batting average (.385). He additionally ranked third in on-base percentage (.449) and on-base plus slugging (1.014), and fourth in total bases (44) and slugging percentage (.564).

Estevez began the season on a strong note, producing four consecutive multi-hit games and finishing with 11 overall in April. This year is Estevez’s first with the Drillers. He made his professional debut in 2016 with Low-A Great Lakes, and spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

The 21-year-old was among the non-roster invitees in big league camp with the Dodgers this year for the first time in his career. The second baseman/shortstop was ranked the 19th-best prospect in the organization heading into the 2019 season.

Estevez signed with the Dodgers out of Cuba in November 2015.
