Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully will be honored as the first-ever recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the L.A. Sports Council.

Scully will receive his honor during the 11th Annual LA Sports Awards on Thursday, Feb. 25 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

“I can’t think of a person more deserving of this recognition,” Sports Council President David Simon said.

“Even more remarkable than his longevity is the consistently high quality and integrity his announcing has represented over the years.”

The LA Sports Awards are presented annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles and Orange County area. The ceremony will be televised by Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket at a later date.

Scully was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame last November. He was previously enshrined in the baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.

Among Scully’s career highlights are calling 28 World Series (a record for a broadcaster) and 12 All-Star Games. The Golden Voice of the Dodgers is entering his 67th and likely final season.

Scully missed the postseason due to undergoing a recommended medical procedure, however he’s since made a full recovery and spoke optimistically about returning to the broadcast booth for the 2016 season.

The 88 year old has worked under a reduced travel schedule in recent years and the same will hold true for his final season. Moreover, there remains the possibility Scully will make additional cutbacks.
