Dodgers Free Agent Rumors: Amed Rosario Drawing Interest From Miami Marlins

Spring Training is underway for every team, but many notable players who became free agents following the 2023 season remain unsigned.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, that includes J.D. Martinez, Kiké Hernández, Amed Rosario, David Peralta, Kolten Wong and Jimmy Nelson.

Martinez and Hernández have received the majority of interest from clubs, but it seems the latter hopes to return to the Dodgers while teams have gone with different options than the former.

Rosario has also been drawing interest recently, with the Los Angeles Angels among the interested teams. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Harold, the Miami Marlins have also shown interest in Rosario:

Among the free agent shortstops, the two that have drawn the most interest from the Marlins are Amed Rosario (who would play shortstop) and Gio Urshela (who wouldn’t play there primarily).

Rosario spent last season with the Cleveland Guardians before he was traded to the Dodgers for Noah Syndergaard in a swap of struggling players.

The Dodgers hoped Rosario would improve their lineup against left-handed pitching, and he got off to a hot start with his new club but regressed and was ultimately left off their playoff roster.

At the time of being traded to the Dodgers, Rosario was hitting .265/.306/.369 with three home runs, 40 RBI and 51 runs scored in 94 games for the Guardians. With the Dodgers, Rosario hit an overall .256/.301/.408 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 48 games.

Rosario comes with pedigree as a former top prospect with the tools to be an everyday player, but he has been unable to put it all together.

Jon Berti spent most of the 2023 season as the Marlins shortstop, and he’s slated to play there again this season, but the 34-year-old is better suited to a utility role.

Angels interested in Kiké Hernández alongside Amed Rosario

In addition to their interest in Rosario, the Angels have also been connected to Hernández this offseason amid their search for infield help.

Both players are coming off down seasons, but Hernández did improve after being traded to the Dodgers. He also has the versatility that would make him valuable to any club.
