As the Los Angeles Dodgers await clearance to begin a second Spring Training followed by the start of the 2020 regular season, several players have contributed to local efforts as the community bands together to navigate the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The spread of the virus not only brought Major League Baseball and other professional, collegiate and amateur sports to a halt, but schools, small business and corporations have also been impacted. In response to the LAUSD shutting their doors, The Dream Center stepped in to provide daily meals at no cost.

The Dream Center is serving from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m., and dinner starting at 4:30 p.m. Justin and Kourtney Turner, along with Clayton and Ellen Kershaw have purchased food from local restaurants and had it delivered to The Dream Center for distribution to students and families in need.

On Monday, Chris Taylor purchased 1,000 tacos from Toro Grillhouse to help support lunch services.

Turner and Clayton Kershaw, regularly work with The Dream Center on various initiatives. Last August, Taylor joined Turner in attending the sixth annual Kershaw’s Challenge Back to School Bash at the nonprofit’s Los Angeles campus.

On top of holding their annual event last year to distribute school supplies to local students, Kershaw’s Challenge opened a new children’s park.

The relationship between Turner and The Dream Center began when Kourtney participated in one of their events several years back. The couple founded the Justin Turner Foundation in 2016, and through that opened a men’s floor for veterans and later a women’s veterans home on The Dream Center campus.

Late last year the Justin Turner Foundation worked with The Dream Center to present the 25th annual Christmas Dreamland. The Turners helped distribute more than 8,000 toys, which were separated by gender and age group to ensure each child received a suitable gift.
