With Julio Urias accepting a 20-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy and being placed on the suspended list, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Casey Sadler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Sadler returns after being optioned last Sunday as the corresponding move to activating Hyun-Jin Ryu off the 10-day injured list. Sadler joined the Dodgers via trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on July 3.

He has appeared in nine games thus far and allowed just one run over 12.1 innings pitched (0.73 ERA). Including time with the Rays, Sadler has pitched to a 1.42 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 18 Major League games.

Because of being up with the Dodgers, Sadler has only appeared in two games for Oklahoma City, making one start. The right-hander allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings pitched during those appearances.

Urias was credited for five games missed while on administrative leave back in May, reducing the span of his current suspension to 15 games. He can be added back to the active roster on Monday, Sept. 2.

Urias was arrested on suspension of domestic violence during an incident at the Beverly Center. The Dodgers immediately placed him on administrative leave as MLB launched their investigation.

Witnesses told police Urias shoved his girlfriend in the parking lot of the shopping mall, however she refuted those claims. The league was said to have encountered trouble in obtaining surveillance video of the incident, and while not to excuse him, it was suggested Urias’ actions did not have an intent to inflict harm.

That perhaps was a factor in MLB not deeming Urias ineligible for postseason play, like some others were upon being suspended under the overhauled policy that’s been in effect since 2016.

In June, the L.A. prosecutors office announced they would not press charges against Urias under the conditions he participate in a City Attorney hearing, commit no acts of violence against anyone, and successfully participate in and complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling program in person, and in a group setting.

“While we are disappointed in what occurred and support the decision by the Commissioner’s Office, we are also encouraged that Julio has taken responsibility for his actions and believe he will take the necessary steps to learn from this incident,” the Dodgers said in a statement.

Urias last pitched in the series opener against the Atlanta Braves, completing a three-inning save. He’s 4-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 27 games (six starts) this season.
