Dodgers Lineup Mired In Worst Stretch Since 1909 Superbas

The Los Angeles Dodgers lineup has hit the skids over the past week, with the futile stretch not seen in franchise history since the Brooklyn Superbas in September of 1909, per ESPN Stats and Info research.

In six games since an 11-6 win over the San Diego Padres in 12 innings, the Dodgers have batted .128 as a team and only scored 11 runs. They are yet to be shut out this season, but Friday marked a second time they have mustered just one run in the past three games, and a third time overall in 2021.

It certainly is worth noting the Dodgers have endured a handful of injuries this month. Cody Bellinger has been out since being spiked in the left calf — which was discovered to be a hairline fracture in his left fibula — and the likes of Mookie Betts, Gavin Lux, Zach McKinstry and Chris Taylor have all missed time as well.

The Dodgers placed McKinstry on the 10-day injured list before Friday’s game due to a right oblique strain. He is second on the team three home runs and 14 RBI. Meanwhile, Taylor missed a second consecutive game and remains day-to-day with lower back stiffness.

The Dodgers have 23 hits over their last 6 games, their fewest hits in a 6-game span since September of 1909.

Corey Seager, who was blistering hot to begin the season, has been held hitless in five of the past eight games. Justin Turner has arguably been the Dodgers’ most reliable batter this year, but he’s without a hit in three of the past five games.

Roberts not concerned with Dodgers

Following a loss to the Padres in the series opener at Dodger Stadium, manager Dave Roberts said he was not overly concerned with the Dodgers’ ongoing struggles. He maintained that stance even after another subpar performance.

“I don’t think we’re pressing. I don’t think we’re there yet,” he said. “I just think we’ve got to find a way to create baserunners and keep putting ourselves in position to drive runs in. We do that, we’ll start scoring more.

“It’s just one hit at a time. We’ve just got to collectively keep taking good at-bats.”
