Dodgers Injury Updates: Julio Urías, Chris Taylor & Max Muncy

Los Angeles Dodgers injuries have hit the pitching staff particularly hard this season, but the likes of Max Muncy, David Peralta and Chris Taylor have also missed time of late.

Despite being diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and lower glute issue, Peralta only missed one game before he was back in the Dodgers lineup.

Meanwhile, Urías’ stint on the 15-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain has lasted longer than first anticipated, Muncy also is sidelined by hamstring trouble, and Taylor has been unavailable due to a right knee contusion but remained on the active roster.

Julio Urías

When the Dodgers put Urías on the IL on May 20, they expected to activate him in early June for a return against the San Diego Padres. Then it appeared he was poised to start in the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 11, but lingering hamstring tightness further delayed his return.

The left-hander threw two bullpen sessions during the Dodgers’ homestand and progressed to facing batters before the Freeway Series opener on Tuesday.

“I felt good. Everything felt great. Very positive. Just getting ready for whatever is next,” Urías said through an interpreter.

“Obviously it’s very important to be 100% and fully healthy. At the beginning I tried to rush it and get through it a little bit faster, but it didn’t feel as good as I wanted it to. Now it’s just taking time to get back to 100%. Obviously we’re in a bad stretch right now, but I’m trying to get back and help the team whenever I can.”

Assuming Urías does not suffer a setback, he’s expected to join Single-A Rancho Cucamonga for a rehab assignment on Sunday. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the plan is for that outing to be four innings and 60 pitches.

That would leave Urías in line to return to the Dodgers rotation during their road series with the Kansas City Royals.

Max Muncy

After failing to quickly recover from discomfort in his left hamstring, Muncy was put on the IL on June 16, with the stint backdated three days prior. Muncy was among the batters Urías faced and is on track to return for the Houston Astros series.

“Max right now doesn’t feel anything with the hamstring,” Roberts said. “The plan right now is no rehab assignment needed, and he’ll start for us on Friday.”

Chris Taylor

The Dodgers have not put Taylor on the IL, nor do they expect to do so, as he recovers from a bone bruise in his right knee along with some cartilage damage that was treated with a cortisone injection.

Taylor was limited to pinch-hitting Tuesday and could potentially appear off the bench to play defense in the finale of the Freeway Series.

“When we get to the weekend, I think he should be a full-go,” Roberts said.
