The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Edwin Uceta and optioned Andre Jackson prior to Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

This marks a second time in as many opportunities that Jackson has been optioned the day after pitching for L.A. Like in his MLB debut earlier this month, Jackson followed an opener out of the bullpen.

He pitched 4.2 innings against the Rockies, allowing just one run on four hits and demonstrating the same confidence and ability to pitch through traffic that was seen in his first game.

“I thought Andre was fantastic,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the 4-2 loss. “I thought he went to his curveball a little bit more, which was great. I know he trusts his changeup, which is good. His cut-slider pitch, I thought he located the fastball pretty well.

“I think the main thing with Andre is he’s just going to get better with experience. He’s got a good heartbeat and his mound presence, the poise, is really advanced for his service time.”

Uceta returns after being one of the corresponding roster moves to the Dodgers adding Jackson and Neftalí Féliz on Aug. 16.

Uceta is 0-3 with a 6.64 ERA in 14 games (one start) for the Dodgers this season. The right-hander made his MLB debut with a start against the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of April.

Dodgers rotating pitchers

When Justin Bruihl made his MLB debut earlier this month he additionally helped the Dodgers set a franchise record as the 32nd pitcher used this season. It broke the previous mark of 31 pitchers, shared by the 2015, 2016 and 2018 clubs.

The Dodgers have since added to their record, using 37 pitchers thus far — which includes Andy Burns’ brief appearance on the mound. Despite a seemingly never-ending pitching staff, the Dodgers have fared well and so too have their hurlers.

“It’s a collective effort,” Roberts said. “When you’re going down a road like that with pitchers it usually doesn’t end well, but we’ve found a way to use it as a strength.”
