Dodgers Injury Update: Tyler Glasnow Potentially Skipping Rehab Assignment

Tyler Glasnow cleared another hurdle Tuesday afternoon by throwing his second bullpen session since going on the 15-day injured list because of right elbow tendinitis.

“It was good. It was good. I didn’t talk to him about it afterwards, but my eyes, I liked what I saw,” Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

“I thought he was ripping the fastball, used all of his pitches, and I feel good coming out of it that he’ll face some hitters Friday in Atlanta.”

Glasnow’s second bullpen session came days after he threw an estimated 20 pitches, all fastballs.

The Dodgers anticipated Glasnow returning after missing the required time, but his recovery process initially moved at a slower pace. It’s picked up since playing catch on back-to-back days at Chase Field during the Dodgers’ last road trip.

Now having completed two bullpen sessions, the 31-year-old is expected to go multiple innings during a simulated game at Truist Park on Friday.

“I think it’s probably a two- or three-inning sim game. Something like that,” Roberts said.

Will Tyler Glasnow need rehab assignment?

Given the amount of time Glasnow has spent on the injured list, he normally would require a rehab assignment prior to getting activated.

However, given there is less than three weeks remaining in the regular season and current state of the Dodgers’ rotation, the team now plans to have Glasnow return after facing batters this week.

“To get him in a Major League game is a priority,” Roberts said of the change in planning. “So if he can manage two or three innings in a sim game, I think that will be sufficient.”

Glasnow also did not go on a rehab assignment before returning from lower back tightness earlier this year. But in that instance he missed around two weeks, which is much less than the one month Glasnow will likely have spent on the injured list for his elbow trouble.
