The Los Angeles Dodgers salvaged their road trip by completing a sweep of the New York Mets on Wednesday, led by home runs from Will Smith, Shohei Ohtani and Jason Heyward in a 10-3 win at Citi Field.

With their victory, the Dodgers finished 3-3 on the road trip and enjoyed a much more pleasant flight back to Los Angeles for a quick homestand.

Smith got the Dodgers going early with a home run in the second inning to put them up 1-0. The homer was Smith’s second in as many days.

Andy Pages added an RBI single in the fourth inning and Ohtani drove a run in on his base hit in the fifth. However, the Dodgers’ 3-0 lead wound up being short-lived.

Starting on regular rest for the first time this season, James Paxton only threw 50 pitches over three scoreless innings. Yohan Ramírez took care of the fourth inning, but Elieser Hernández and Michael Grove combined to allow the Mets to tie the game with a three-run fifth. All three runs were charged to Hernández.

The game remained knotted up until Smith’s second homer put the Dodgers back ahead in the eighth. The multi-home run game was Smith’s second of his career.

That sparked a big inning for the Dodgers that saw Heyward triple, Miguel Rojas hit an RBI single and Ohtani go to the opposite field for his first career home run at Citi Field. Heyward further padded the big lead and capped off the Dodgers’ scoring with a homer in the ninth.

Will Smith reaches 100 career home runs

Smith became the fourth catcher in Dodgers franchise history to hit at least 100 home runs. He joined Hall of Famers Roy Campanella (242) and Mike Piazza (177), and Steve Yeager (100).

Smith currently leads all catchers this season with a .516 slugging percentage.
